ANSWER: The DNR determines the numbers of Acres and the Locations that can be sprayed for weeds each year. SLIA is responsible to procure bids and oversee the selected applicator. LARE and SLIA funds are used to pay for the spraying. Only 71.1 Acres of Sylvan Lake can be treated – however channels are not included in this number.

ANSWER: A homeowner can treat ONE area 25 feet by 25 feet without a permit. However, they can not do this if another area is clear. All property owners can spray themselves if they use approved aquatic weed control spray. The farmers mill located in Laotto, IN (IN 205 and old 3) are very knowledgeable on material that can be legally used. In addition, the Sylvan Lake Improvement Association (SLIA) contracts with Jim Donahoe, (Aquatic Weed Control) 574-533-2597). He would be able to provide a quote for service.
